Phase 3: Production and Quality Control (Weeks 15-17)

- Do not rely on generic CITES certificates from leather suppliers. Each permit is specific to a shipment, a quantity, and a destination. A "CITES certificate" for raw skins from Zimbabwe does not cover finished handbags manufactured in China and shipped to New York. You need the full chain of export-import-re-export documentation.
- Factor CITES compliance into your MOQ and pricing. The $2,400 in CITES documentation costs added $16 to the FOB cost per bag for the 150-bag run. At a smaller MOQ of 50 bags, the per-bag compliance cost would have been $48 -- a meaningful 8-10% cost increase.
Final Reflection: The NYC brand's crocodile clutch collection sold out within 3 weeks of launch, generating $420,000 in revenue against a production cost of $85,000.
